The Children’s Ministries Chorus Music presented its 2nd annual United Methodist Zimbabwe East Conference Music Festival and Competition at Old Mutare Mission in Mutare where 15 choral groups from Chitungwiza, Zimunya and Chikanga participated.
A total of 15 choral groups and 11 percussion bands took to the stage at Old Mutare Mission where young choristers and conductors as young as 5 entertained the crowd in what was meant to be a choral music competition.
However, the festival ended up being a time to discover the talent of the youngsters and nature them.
One of the organisers of the festival, said the whole idea is to give the youngsters the opportunity to showcase their talent, encourage the youngsters to learn more about music, how to read music, how to conduct music and how to properly sing it.
The festival offers young singers and young choir masters the opportunity to work with other young music conductors in an effort to nature their talent.
In the competition, Zimunya urban came first, second position saw Chikanga 3 walking away with prize money, whilst King David Mutare scooped the third position.
Among those who participated include choirs from Chitungwiza, Ruwa, Penhalonga, Domboramwari, Hatfield, among other circuits.
The Children’s Ministries Choral Music Festival Competition for United Methodist Zimbabwe East Conference is dedicated to the development of artistry in every child.
Through the singing of high quality music the young singers develop self-confidence, discipline and social skills as well as musical knowledge.
